Continuing his commitment to bring new jobs and capital investment to Florida, Governor Rick Scott led an economic development mission to the United Kingdom and the Farnborough International Air Show. The air show is one of the largest exhibitions featuring the aerospace, defense and space sectors.

The mission provided Florida with a unique opportunity to demonstrate its competitive advantages in these key targeted markets. The trip gave Governor Scott the ability to meet face-to-face with leading CEOs in the aviation and aerospace sectors in one location – something done only at these events. In approximately 72 hours,Governor Scott, along with the EFI team, met with more than 40 companies. In addition, the EFI business development team met with 34 companies interested in doing business in Florida.

The UK is Florida’s largest foreign direct investor, employing more than 39,000 Floridians, and the state is the largest long-haul destination for the UK, with 1.3 million tourists visiting annually. In addition, Florida exports to the United Kingdom were valued at $871.9 million in 2011. Florida’s top exports to the United Kingdom include: civilian aircraft, engines and parts; automatic data process machines; optical fibers; lumber and telecommunications equipment.
