Chile is Florida’s seventh largest-trade partner with nearly $7.7 billion in bilateral trade. Florida-origin exports to Chile have expanded by 53 percent in the last two years, and the state has experienced a two-way trade growth of 262 percent since the implementation of the U.S.-Chile Free Trade Agreement in January 2004. The mission to Chile aimed to attract more Chilean cargo through Florida ports. The Port of Panama City is the number one port for Chilean copper and the Miami International Airport is the top entry point for Chilean salmon.
Governor Rick Scott’s trade missionto Santiago, Chileresulted in more than $39 million in expected sales. These results were reported by Florida companies that were matched one-on-one with potential Chilean clients through the U.S. Embassy’s Gold Key Program. Through EFI, more Florida companies participate in the Gold Key program than any other state.
Governor Scott also met with the Association of Chilean Fruit Exporters (ASOEX) and discussed opportunities to increase the use of Florida ports as entry points for Chilean fruit exports to the U.S.
