Enterprise Florida-led trip provides life science companies with international growth opportunities
ORLANDO, FL (June 4, 2015)– The recent Enterprise Florida-led trip toHospitalar 2015resulted in a record $31 million in total projected sales for nine Florida life sciences companies. The annual show, held May 19-22 in Brazil, is the third largest medical trade show in the world. Florida hosted the largest exhibition of any U.S. state in attendance.
“Enterprise Florida (EFI) is proud to have assisted the small businesses in attendance and we congratulate them on record-setting sales numbers,” said Florida Secretary of Commerce Bill Johnson, who serves as president and CEO of EFI. “Shows like Hospitalar provide a unique and beneficial experience for companies looking to increase their international footprint and grow beyond domestic borders. Our international trade and development team is the best in the business and we’ll continue working with companies across the state to help them learn how to successfully expand in international markets.”
EFI’s presence in the U.S. Pavilion allowed the nine Florida companies to cost-effectively exhibit their products. Of the companies attending, six were awarded aTarget Sector Trade Grant.Without the assistance of EFI’s International Trade and Development efforts, many of the companies would not be able to attend or be as successful and efficient in reaching such a large target audience.
“The grant and overall help from Enterprise Florida is very fruitful for our future sales and exploration for distributors in each of the countries,” said Casey Lee, General Manager of OSKO, Inc. “With Enterprise Florida’s assistance we were able to partner with a local assembler and a prominent partner in Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay and Mexico as well as expand our sales goals.”
“As the leading orthotic company in the United States, we have a very poor presence in Latin America,” said David Kerr, the CEO of Orthomerica. “We were able to meet probably 10 legitimate potential distributors for several Latin American countries as well as several end users who promised to contact us upon return to their country. Our projected sales could certainly exceed my estimate.”
“As a result of our participation in Hospitalar, we will develop market entry into Brazil, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Paraguay, Uruguay, Panama, Bolivia and even Lebanon,” said Michael Richardson, Senior Vice President of Perry Biomedical Corporation. “This has been an invaluable support to us, without which we would not have had a platform to expand in Latin America.”
