Florida Showcase remains the only state pavilion with a significant presence
ORLANDO, Fla.– Today, Secretary of Commerce and Enterprise Florida, Inc. (EFI) president & CEO, Gray Swoope, announced that the EFI-led trip to Arab Health resulted in more than $155 million in total projected sales by Florida small businesses in attendance. EFI hosted the Florida Showcase at Arab Health 2015, exhibiting 32 small and mid-sized companies marketing their medical and healthcare products to an international audience.
Secretary Swoope said, “This year EFI hosted a record 32 companies at the Florida Pavilion at Arab Health, and we are excited to see these small businesses build more trade partnerships in the Middle East. Small businesses are the foundation of our economy and EFI’s international trade and development programs help those companies grow and create jobs through trade.”

Of the 32 companies attending, 10 were awarded a Florida Trade Grant. Without the assistance of EFI’sInternational Trade and Development efforts, many of the companies would not be able to attend and, without the pavilion, they would not be as successful and efficient in reaching such a large audience.
Arab Health attracts decision-makers from around the world. In 2015, the tradeshow attracted 93,000 visitors from more than 64 countries, including medical staff, hospital management, and dealer-distributors.

Florida has nearly 1,000biotech, pharmaceutical and medical device companies, making it third in the U.S. for pharmaceutical and medical manufacturing businesses. Additionally, there are more than 44,000 healthcare establishments around the state. In all, more than 700,000 healthcare professionals work in Florida.
International trade and foreign direct investment accounted for about one-sixth of the state’s economic output last year and supports an estimated one million jobs. Florida has the highest trade surplus among all states, with total trade exports plus imports hitting a record of $162.2 billion.
